The Role of Tsa-Tsas: Iconographic Figure Associated with the Nyingma Tradition

Damchen Dorje Legpa is a distinctive figure within Tibetan iconographic tradition, particularly associated with the Nyingma lineage. In classical visual narratives, he is portrayed with a dynamic posture and strong visual presence, often depicted riding a goat, a feature that emphasizes determination, momentum, and resolute character within symbolic artistic language.

Traditional accounts describe Dorje Legpa as a figure shaped by discipline and transformation, with imagery that reflects themes of responsibility, order, and controlled intensity. Elements such as his staff and assertive stance function as symbolic design features, representing structure, commitment, and continuity within established visual conventions rather than literal action or effect.

This 10.2 cm Large Tsa-Tsa is presented as a cultural and artistic representation, modeled in reference to classical Dorje Legpa iconographic forms. Valued for its compact composition, refined detailing, and continuity with traditional visual language, the piece preserves the expressive character of Dorje Legpa imagery as a handcrafted clay art object intended for appreciation and display.

About Us

We are a group of artists from the rooftop of the world, united by our dedication to the art of Tsa-Tsa sculpture. Traveling across Tibet, we collaborate with master artisans who share a deep respect for this cultural tradition.

Every Tsa-Tsa in our collection is handcrafted by Tibetan artists—where clay becomes their canvas and chisels their tools of expression. Through careful carving, they infuse meaning and intention into every contour, shaping humble materials into refined works of art.

We turn away from fleeting trends to honor a tradition passed down through generations. With humility and care, we preserve the spirit of a craftsmanship that has endured for centuries.
